Talent Manager Loses Client After Assistant Reveals Sexist Email
Actor and performer Jai Rodriguez has dropped manager Michael Einfeld in the wake of a sexist-email scandal that has gone viral.
On Aug. 8, Rosette Laursen, a former office assistant to the veteran talent manager, published a lengthy Facebook post detailing sexist and offensive exchanges she had with her boss of five months. She shared screenshots of emails and text messages, allegedly sent by Einfeld, in which he called her an “uppity selfish c—” and suggested that "someone should sew her vagina shut" for requesting March 8 off to observe A Day Without a Woman.
"Are you fucking kidding me. At the end of pilot season," Einfeld apparently wrote in an email that was intended only for two male colleagues but was accidentally distributed officewide. "I'm never hiring a girl ever again."
After realizing his emails had reached the entire team, Einfeld (who Laursen says is gay) texted her. "I apologize for venting like a masagonistic faggit [sic]," he wrote in a screenshot that Laursen uploaded with her post. "If you come back we can play Nazi death camp. You can beat me and put me in the oven or feed me cabbage and lock me in the shower."
Laursen's exposé, which she decided to publish after Einfeld allegedly ignored her attorney's requests to reach a private financial settlement, has received more than 2,500 Facebook reactions and has been shared more than 960 times. The manager responded to her claims Thursday evening in an email to "friends, colleagues and clients" and in a Facebook post that was made private the next morning. "Let me say without reservation — I am sorry," Einfeld wrote. "I used language that was tasteless, humorless and completely inexcusable. I believe deeply in workplace diversity regardless of race, gender, creed or sexual orientation, and I am mortified that the things I have said have worked against my commitment to inclusion. As I've searched for a response to all this, what I’ve discovered is that words fall woefully short of my extreme remorse — I am so sorry. I will be undertaking some obviously needed introspection, and want to thank those of you who have expressed a willingness to stand by me. To those that feel they need space from me — I am heartbroken but understand."
Rodriguez, perhaps best known as one of the co-hosts on the 2003-2007 Bravo breakout Queer Eye, declined comment but confirmed through a rep that he would no longer be working with Einfeld. It is unclear just how long the performer, whose recent acting roles include Grey's Anatomy and Kingdom and upcoming parts on Wisdom of the Crowd and Dice, had been represented by Einfeld, whose eponymous management company is based in Toluca Lake, Calif. Rodriguez, currently co-headlining Paris Las Vegas' Sex Tips for Straight Women From a Gay Man in a 12-week engagement opposite reality TV star Kendra Wilkinson, continues to be repped by Gersh. He is known to be a staunch advocate for LGBT rights and other marginalized communities.
Einfeld did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
