Timothee Chalamet Recruits VIP Guests for 'Beautiful Boy' Premiere
At the Los Angeles premiere of Beautiful Boy on Oct. 8, The Hollywood Reporter spotted two bold-faced names making the rounds but keeping fairly low profiles inside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: Virgil Abloh and Kid Cudi.
It turns out that the two were personally invited by the star of the film, their good friend Timothée Chalamet, who toplines alongside Steve Carell in Amazon Studios’ adaptation of the memoirs from David and Nic Sheff, a father-son duo who each chronicled their experiences of Nic’s devastating roller-coaster journey as an addict.
Abloh, who debuted his first collection as Louis Vuitton’s menswear artistic director in June in Paris, is one of the most buzzed-about names in fashion. Turns out he’s a suitable guy to have in one’s corner: Chalamet was hard to miss at the event, wearing a striking red suit from Abloh’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection paired with a pair of LV runner sneakers.
Abloh stayed through the entire film, hung out at the party for 20 minutes and then exited by himself just after 10 p.m., jumping in a waiting SUV outside the Academy’s front doors.
As for Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, he told Billboard in 2016 about his own struggles with drug addiction. Reached by THR to get his take on the film and Chalamet's performance, the multitalented entertainer had nothing but praise.
"Timothee is on fire! I loved it," Kid Cudi tells THR. "A beautiful film with power performances. This is a topic that is really close to home for me. A true story of unconditional love and family through the troubling times. My favorite young artist today. Congrats on another one, Timmy!"
