Airdate: 10-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept 6.
Add another kid-friendly, extremely inviting tot program to this week's Disney Channel Playhouse Disney Saturday morning line-up. "Imagination Movers" would move adults to tears with all its hokum, but teeny weeny viewers will no doubt eat it up. What's better than sitting in front of the tube and watching a bunch of silly but entertaining grown-ups trying (and maybe succeeding) to solve problems? It's fun and educational, education being as much an earmark as Mickey's ears for this programming block.
Combining live action antics and musical numbers -- played by the real live New Orleans Band, who also star throughout -- "Imagination Movers" gives kids music to move to and creative play to boot. Each episode presents a particular problem the band encounters and their attempts to solve the problem and make it disappear. The problem is usually something annoying, not frightening in any way for young minds. Additionally, the problems the band (and the kid viewers) solve are never that complicated, and once solved the problems teach kids a little more about the everyday world they inhabit.
Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche and Scott "Smitty" Smith are the band members who takes kids on magic ride every episode. Also helping them out are Wendy Calio and Nine, a lively teen who rounds out the playful antics.
Each 30-minute episode features a group of new songs sung in music-type performances by the New Orleans band. There are also lots of gadgets on hand, just to make sure the Imagination Movers move in the right direction and give kids as much entertainment as possible in their problem-solving adventures.
The four band members go over to the slapstick side from time to time, but that should only enhance kids' enjoyment of their antics. Some moments are laugh-out-loud funny for youngsters, while others are more mild. But there is very little dead space in this series, and young minds are sure to pick up the show's pace and run with it. Regular episodes run daily at 10 a.m.
