DreamWorks Physical Production Head Steve Molen Resigns
His departure comes amid reductions in that department in the wake of the company's renegotiation with financier Reliance Entertainment.
Steve Molen, head of physical production at DreamWorks, resigned at close of business Thursday.
His departure is associated with reductions in that department in the wake of the company's renegotiation with Reliance Entertainment, which has agreed to provide financing that will enable Steven Spielberg's studio to make eight to 10 films during the next two to three years.
Although Reliance has agreed in principle to provide unspecified funds, DreamWorks will still have to slim down. The company will make three or four films a year, focusing on tentpole or low-budget fare and avoiding the middle.
DreamWorks will seek to partner on larger movies, as it has with Fox on the upcoming Robopocalypse, due in July 2013, and with Participant on The Help and Spielberg's upcoming biopic Lincoln.
The company will release only two small movies this year: People Like Us, set for June 29, and Lincoln in December.
