HollyShorts Fest Nabs Exclusive Footage From Pras Michel's 'Sweet Micky for President'

Clips from the Haitian political documentary will have their world premiere opening night at the Arclight Hollywood on Aug. 11.

Opening night of the HollyShorts Film Festival will include the world premiere of exclusive footage from Sweet Micky for President, a political documentary produced by Pras Michel of the Fugees. The fest, which runs through Aug. 18, will hold the screening at the Arclight Hollywood on Thursday, AUg. 11.

Directed by Ben Patterson, the film delves into the Haitian election that followed the country's devastating earthquake and features appearances by and interviews with Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Danny Glover and Nigel Barker. Part of the narrative covers the tension that arose between Michel, who supported Michel Martelly for the presidency, and his childhood friend and former Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean, who also ran for the post.

The Grammy Award-winning Michel produced the film. He and Patterson will attend the screening and participate in a Q&A.

As previously announced, HollyShorts opening night will also feature writer Jamie Linden’s (We Are Marshall) short film The Envelope in the Glovebox and Jacob Chase’s short After-School Special written by Neil Labute, whose short film Sexting will screen during the festival. Labute will also receive a Maverick Filmmaker Award.

The annual HollyShorts fest will showcase 300 short-form projects, including short films, music videos, web series and commercials, all around Hollywood.
