More Tribeca Film Fest News: Panels, Events, Street Fair, Soccer Tournament

Everyone from Ron Howard and Brian Williams to Alec Baldwin and Pele will be on hand during the many community events.

The Tribeca Drive-In, Family Festival Street Fair, Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day and free panel series will return to the Tribeca Film Festival this year, the organizers announced Thursday. NYFest, an industry soccer tournament, has also been added to the long list of community events.

Fame, The Muppets Take Manhattan and excerpts from the festival premiere of the documentary When the Drum Is Beating, which will include a performance from Haitian-Caribbean-Jazz fusion band Septentrional, will be featured in the outdoor, drive-in series. They take place April 21-23 at World Financial Center Plaza.

On April 23 at Pier 40, NYFest will feature five-on-five matches between industry players, plus a celebrity game with legendary footballer Pele flipping the coin for kickoff. CAA, Sony Pictures Classics, Focus Features, FilmNation, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Law and Order, Technicolor, Paradigm, Gersh, R/GA, AKQA and Deluxe are fielding teams in the competition. The all-day event is open to the public. All proceeds from the event, organized by Jeffrey Saunders and Dylan Leiner, will go to local charities.

The Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair will take place April 30 on Greenwich Street, with the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day taking place on N. Moore Street.

“The Tribeca Film Festival was started nearly 10 years ago to revive culture and business in lower Manhattan, and showcase what Tribeca has to offer,” said fest executive director Nancy Schafer. "During each festival, we have featured a variety of free community events as our way of giving back to the city, and this year is no exception.”

The "Tribeca Talks" series, which includes a number of different panels, will feature Martin Scorsese, Souleymane Cisse, Brian Williams, Robert De Niro, Alec Baldwin, Doug Liman, Sean Penn, Harry Belafonte, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Akiva Goldsman, Alex Gibney, Steven Silver, Peter Bart, David Gelb, Marc Schiller, Rider Strong, Howard Tullman, Sheila Nevins, Edward Burns and many more.

The festival takes place from April 20-May 1.
