Samuel L. Jackson is doing double duty come May.

Already set as Nick Fury in Joss Whedon's The Avengers, opening May 4, Jackson can also be seen in indie action thriller The Samaritan -- in theaters two weeks later. The latter centers on Foley (Jackson), who spent two decades in a prison, as he meets a young woman Iris and there is hope that he may finally get a new start. Unfortunately for him, his past is proving to be an unexpected problem. The Samaritan will also be available on VOD April 6.

THR film critic Michael Rechtshaffen called the film, which premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and will be released by IFC Films, "a gritty serving of pulp fiction masterfully perpetrated by Samuel L. Jackson."

Co-starring Tom Wilkinson, Luke Kirby and Ruth Negga, The Samaritan is directed by David Weaver and is produced by Andras Hamori, Tony Wosk and Suzanne Cheriton.
