Cablevision, Viacom Settle iPad App Litigation

Viacom has settled its dispute with Cablevision over an iPad app that streams channels like MTV and VH1.

Terms of the settlement, which resolves litigation filed earlier this year over Cablevision's new Optimum app, were not disclosed, but the companies issued the following joint statement:

"Viacom and Cablevision have agreed to resolve their pending litigation, and the Viacom programming will continue to appear on Cablevision's Optimum Apps for iPad and other IP devices. In reaching the settlement agreement, Cablevision and Viacom were able to resolve the iPad matter and an unrelated business matter to their mutual satisfaction. Neither side is conceding its original legal position or will have further comment."

Viacom essentially claimed its carriage agreement with Cablevision didn't include distribution via iPads. The Sumner Redstone-controlled media company has a similar claim pending against Time Warner Cable.
