‘A.P. Bio’ Renewed for Season 4 at Peacock (Exclusive)

Peacock has handed out its first scripted renewal.

A.P. Bio, the former NBC comedy that was brought back from the dead as the streamer’s first half-hour original, will return for a fourth season on the ad-supported platform. Like its third season, which bowed in September, the fourth cycle will consist of another eight episodes and return in 2021.

“Everyone involved is so excited to do more episodes,” creator/showrunner Mike O’Brien said. “We’re so thankful to Peacock and everyone who watched! Season three was the most fun we’ve had. I want to dig even deeper into the main characters and also keep messing with the sitcom format.”

Starring Glenn Howerton as a disgraced scholar turned high school AP biology teacher, the series is produced in-house at Universal Television. Seth Meyers and Lorne Michaels exec produce the series, which will now have as many seasons on Peacock as it did on NBC. The broadcast network axed the well-reviewed series after season two only to have its streaming sibling, Peacock, revive it a month later.

In addition to being Peacock’s first scripted pickup, A.P. Bio now has the distinction of being the streamer’s first original scripted series to earn a renewal. Live-action drama Brave New World, which was originally developed for NBCUniversal sibling USA Network, was canceled after one season.

Peacock, which launched this past summer, has been ramping up its roster of scripted originals. In addition to the Saved by the Bell reboot (which is awaiting word on a second season), the streamer has a 2021 slate that includes Bel-Air, Dr. Death, Girls5Eva, MacGruber, One of Us Is Lying, the new Punky Brewster and Rutherford Falls.
