John Hoberg Kat Likkel Split - H 2013
Courtesy of ABCABC is continuing to mine British television, giving script orders for an adaptation of No Angels from Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Television.
The network is teaming with writing team Kat Likkel and John Hoberg (Bad Management) to adapt the comedy about a raucous group of four female nurses working together and sharing the same house in a Bridesmaids-style girl gang comedy. The project revolves around their lives — dating, sex, making mistakes, plotting revenge, and struggling with what it means to grow up and be responsible.
Amblin co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce No Angels alongside Spielberg. Likkel and Horberg will serve as showrunners should the comedy move to series, and executive produce alongside Julie Anne Robinson, who will also direct if No Angels moves forward. The U.K.’s World Productions, who oversaw the British series, is also on board to executive produce.
Channel 4’s No Angels starred Kaye Wragg, Sunetra Sarker and Jo Joyner and ran for three seasons from 2004 to 2006. It was created by Toby Whithouse of Being Human and Doctor Who.
Last pilot season, ABC turned to remakes of British fare Spy, Pulling and Lucky 7 (based on The Syndicate). Only Lucky 7, which also hails from Amblin, made it to series. (The lottery drama premiered to disappointing results on Tuesday.) Last year, British-born ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee greenlit a remake of British entry Family Tools (based on White Man Van) to series. The comedy was canceled after one season.
For Amblin, No Angels comes as the company has five scripted series already on the air. In addition to Lucky 7, FX’s KGB thriller The Americans has already been renewed for a second season; CBS picked up summer’s top scripted drama Under the Dome for a second round, and will likely pair it with Extant; TNT’s Falling Skies is currently in production for it’s fourth season.
Likkel and Hoberg most recently executive produced ABC’s comedy pilot Bad Management last season. The ABC Studios-based duo’s credits include The Neighbors, Better With You and My Name Is Earl. They’re repped by UTA, Industry Entertainment, and Jackoway Tyerman.
Robinson most recently directed the pilot for ABC’s short-lived comedy How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life and The Middle. Her episodic credits include Scandal, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Weeds and Big Love. She’s repped by UTA, 3 Arts, and the U.K.’s Talent Group.
