ABC has given pilot orders to a comedy starring Mandy Moore.
Moore is going from the drama of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy to a family comedy at the network, with the Disney-owned network ordering an untitled single-camera comedy from 20th Television that explores the inherent conflict that exists between the families you grow up in and the ones we make as adults.
It will be told through the perspective of Annie (Moore) and Ben, a young newlywed couple who get the opportunity of a lifetime to run a hip, new restaurant in Annie’s hometown bringing her closer to her needy and high-maintenance family.
ABC gave a production commitment to the project in October. From Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements‘ 21 Laps/Adelstein shingle, the duo will executive produce alongside Rob Fisher, who will pen the project. Jon Leshay will produce with Night at the Museum‘s Shawn Levy directing and exec producing.
Levy and Adelstein had a busy development season, setting up 11 projects through their deal at 20th Television, including a Romancing the Stone adaptation.
The project reteams singer-actress with Leshay, a music supervisor on a handful of Moore-fronted features including A Walk to Remember.
The Moore project becomes the network’s 12th comedy ordered to pilot, joining projects from Judy Greer, Dan Fogelman, Claudia Lonow, Reba McEntire, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia DeRossi as well as Kari Lizer.
Moore had a four-episode arc on Shonda Rhimes‘ medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. Her series credits also include Scrubs, Entourage and How I Met Your Mother. She’s repped by WME, Storefront Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
