ABC Midseason: ‘A Million Little Things’ Breaks Up TGIT

ABC will break up its TGIT block in the first part of 2019, moving A Million Little Things to Thursdays for the remainder of its run while giving Station 19 an extended hiatus.

The network also will debut three new shows in the first quarter and launch a new season of American Idol in March.

The new shows include the spy dramedy Whiskey Cavalier, which will bow Wednesday, Feb. 27, and the legal thriller The Fix, coming Monday, March 18, after The Good Doctor finishes its season. ABC previously announced a Jan. 9 premiere for Schooled, a 1990s-set spinoff of The Goldbergs.

A Million Little Things will make its Thursday debut on Jan. 17, sandwiched between the returning Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder. Match Game will fill the 10 p.m. Wednesday spot currently occupied by A Million Little Things starting Jan. 9 — returning Alec Baldwin to primetime on ABC after his eponymous talk show crashed in the fall.

Station 19 will return March 7, which also will bring the season two premiere of the Shondaland legal drama For the People, which takes over the HTGAWM slot.

American Idol will start a new season Sunday, March 3. From Jan. 6 until then, ABC will air two-hour blocks of America’s Funniest Home Videos (reruns at 7 p.m., new episodes at 8 p.m.) and Shark Tank (new at 9 p.m., reruns at 10 p.m.) on Sundays.

Another new drama, Grand Hotel, is being held for a summer run and will premiere June 17.
