ABC has promoted a well-regarded executive from corporate sibling Freeform to oversee PR for the network and studio.
Freeform’s Jori Arancio has been named senior vp communications for ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios, the network announced Thursday.
In her new role, Arancio will work closely with ABC Studios president Patrick Moran and ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. She’ll be responsible for all strategic corporate communication efforts, consumer press campaigns, awards outreach and talent relations for both units. She reports to Kevin Brockman, Disney/ABC TV Group Global Communications exec vp. Arancio takes over the position previously occupied by Hope Hartman, who departed the network in September to focus on producing documentaries.
“Having worked alongside Jori for more than a decade, I’ve witnessed first-hand her unique take on the art of communications and seen the dramatic and impressive results of her efforts,” Brockman said. “She’s an innovative thinker and a results-driven manager who excels in the social, influencer and digital communications space without losing sight of the importance of traditional media. She’s the perfect person to lead ccommunications for these two critical businesses.”
Arancio has been vp communications at Disney’s younger-skewing cable network Freeform since 2011. During her tenure, she helped oversee the cabler’s rebranding (from ABC Family), set press strategies and more. Before that, the longtime Disney exec was vp communications at ABC Daytime and Soapnet, where she started in 2005. She first joined Disney in 1998 as a manager of communications at Disney Channel before being quickly promoted to director.
“This role is a privilege and I’m so grateful to Kevin, Channing and Patrick for the opportunity,” Arancio said. “I’ve had the great fortune to have worked at Disney for nearly 20 years and am thrilled to now get the chance to work alongside this incredibly talented communications team and all the immensely creative executives at ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios.”
Said Dungey: “Jori’s extensive experience and bold leadership will help elevate our communication efforts and better position us for the future. She’s an excellent addition to the network senior team.”
Added Moran: “Jori has a fantastic reputation as a creative thinker and someone who gets the job done. We are thrilled to have her as part of the studio team.”
Arancio holds a bachelor’s degree in PR from USC and started her communications career at Bragman/Nyman/Cafarelli.
