ABC is locking up Quantico.
The network on Tuesday handed out a full-season pickup to the freshman FBI thriller featuring Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra. The order is for six additional episodes — with the possibility of more — due to ABC’s heavy roster of midseason fare. As it stands now, Tuesday’s order brings Quantico‘s total episode count to 19, with three more a possibility at a later date.
Quantico ranks as Sunday’s top broadcast program among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic. The series, from ABC Studios and showrunner Josh Safran, has posted big gains in the time slot and improved the network’s performance by 46 percent.
Factoring in DVR, the series premiere jumped 5 million viewers and 79 percent in the demo to pull an average of 12.2 million total viewers and 3.4 among adults under 50.
Produced by Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Jake Coburn and Robert Sertner, Quantico stands out performance-wise, as its lead-in — fellow freshman Blood & Oil — has been lackluster.
Further helping matters is leading lady Chopra, who comes with a built-in social media fan base numbering in the millions.
The series, which co-stars Josh Hopkins, Aunjanue Ellis and Jake McLaughlin, is ABC’s first freshman to earn a back-nine order. It joins NBC’s Blindspot as well as Fox’s midseason comedy Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life, which nabbed an early seven-episode pickup in order to keep the series in production.
