Oscar-nominated Big Short director Adam McKay took a trip down memory lane with Seth Meyers on Monday. The writer-director-producer reminisced about the time he prank called Lorne Michaels while sitting with Will Ferrell.
When McKay was head writer at Saturday Night Live, he said he got impatient while waiting for Michaels to choose which SNL sketches would be in the show. He called Michaels pretending to be Yankee manager Joe Torre.
“I said, ‘Look I have a nephew who’s gay and you guys are doing a lot of gay humor. Maybe just lay off,'” recounts McKay.
Meyers said he couldn’t imagine “having the nerve to prank call Lorne.” McKay said, “It was tiredness.”
Watch below to see how Michaels reacted to the call.
