Building a team of Inhumans within SHIELD has been a slow task for Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet)… too slow.
Agents of SHIELD kicked off season three with Daisy and her fellow agents tracking down a new Inhuman, Joey (Juan Pablo Raba), who can melt metal just by touching it or being near it. But after safely bringing him to SHIELD’s headquarters — and away from Rosalind Price’s (Constance Zimmer) ATCU forces who are trying to take him out with lethal force — Daisy is once again informed by Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood), aka Melinda May’s (Ming-Na Wen) ex-husband and psychologist for SHIELD, that the newest recruit for the Inhuman team is not fit for duty.
It’s clearly an update Daisy has gotten many times over the past few months since the events of the season two finale, as seen here in The Hollywood Reporter‘s exclusive clip from Tuesday’s episode, “Purpose in the Machine.” Before Garner can even open his mouth, Daisy says the words for him: “Let me guess, Joey Gutierrez is unfit for action physically, psychologically and emotionally?”
When Garner tries to tell the impatient agent that, in time, Joey might be ready for field action, it’s the catalyst Daisy needs to explain why she’s so determined to build the “Secret Warriors” team within SHIELD… and fast. The discovery of the Inhuman Lash (Matt Willig) hunting and killing his own kind, the ATCU and the rapid spread of the Terrigen crystals via fish oil pills making new Inhumans faster than they ever planned for is just the tip of the iceberg.
Watch the exclusive clip above to hear Daisy’s impassioned speech about forming the Secret Warriors. Is she right to be so hasty or does Garner have a point that waiting might be the best course of action for all involved?
Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
