Marvel’s ABC universe will remain at two.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that ABC’s proposed Agents of SHIELD spinoff — starring fan favorites Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood — is not moving forward at this time.
The spinoff was to have revolved around Palicki’s Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, and Blood’s Lance Hunter and kicked off by the events in next week’s Agents of SHIELD season finale.
SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and series writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost) were attached to oversee the spinoff, which did not film a pilot.

The news comes a day after ABC renewed the flagship series for a third season and midseason “bridge” show Agent Carter for a second, likely limited, run.
Meanwhile, Marvel and ABC are still in active talks for another drama — this one from American Crime mastermind John Ridley and described only as a reinvention of an existing superhero character. That project is in its infancy and was never in consideration for this upfronts cycle.
The decision to forgo a SHIELD spinoff — at least for now — comes as Marvel has a clear direction on Netflix, with Daredevil already renewed for a second season and subsequent series Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist as well as mini The Defenders all greenlighted to series.
While Marvel’s TV universe will not be growing for the 2015-16 broadcast season, rival DC Comics has earned series orders at CBS for Supergirl and The CW for its Flash/Arrow spinoff, the latter of which earned a pickup without filming a pilot. Meanwhile, a series pickup for Lucifer is growing increasingly likely at Fox. (NBC, for its part, canceled Constantine, making it the only network without a comic book series next season.)
