Among the regular-folks wedding announcements that ran in the New York Times’ Vows section Sunday was one that probably stood out to many readers: that of Alec Baldwin, who wed yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas on Saturday in New York.
Indeed, the Emmy-winning star of 30 Rock and his new wife gave a gushy interview to the Times detailing how they met and when they realized they were ready to be married.

In the piece — which runs down the bride’s and groom’s backgrounds, including where they were raised, their educational achievements, their current vocations and, in his case, a past divorce — the couple talk about their first meeting in February 2011 at a New York restaurant called Pure Food and Wine.
“I was standing near the door with my friends when he walked up and took my hand and said, ‘I must know you,’ ” Thomas told the paper. “You must know me?’ ” she responded and then the two chatted. “And then he gave me his card.”
For his part, Baldwin said he had noticed Thomas while dining with friends but admitted that his opening line was “none too clever.” He also said he gave her his card because “I never ask women for their phone numbers.”
The Times story then goes into lengthy detail about how Thomas was nervous to call Baldwin and persuaded a friend to do it for her. She then missed his call and noticed she had a message but made her assistant listen to it for her.

They had their first date — a group outing with friends — a few days later, at a theater district restaurant. Having never owned a TV, Thomas said she was actually more concerned about their 26-year age difference that the fact that he was a famous actor. (She’s 28; he’s 54.)
At the end of the date, he simply shook her hand, telling her that “he really wanted to get to know me.”
Baldwin was previously married to Kim Basinger; they divorced in 2002. In the Times piece, he addressed the relatively brief courtship between himself and Thomas.
“I’ve dated a lot of people since my divorce and have thought a lot about what I wanted and what I wanted to do,” Baldwin said. “I thought about it too much, I suppose. I wasn’t really ready to take that chance and to act until I met Hilaria.”

And “while she was in no hurry, she was very mature and clear about what she wanted — to be married someday,” he said.
For her part, Thomas said she listened to advice from her mother.
“She told me, ‘Either it’s too fast or it’s just right,’ ” Thomas said.
The couple were married Saturday night at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York and showed off their new rings on Twitter on Sunday morning. Thomas told the Times that she is taking Baldwin’s last name.
