Alec Baldwin has been arrested in New York for punching a man over a parking spot. He will be charged with assault.
The incident occurred in front of 28 East 10th St. just before 2 p.m. ET, New York Police Department Det. Sophia Mason said. “It looks like it was a dispute over the parking spot, and the person in custody punched him,” Mason said.
Mason confirmed the person in question was Baldwin. Baldwin has been arrested at the 6th Precinct station.
In a statement, an ABC representative said, “The Alec Baldwin Show will air as scheduled on Sunday 11/4 at 10pm.”
NBC, the network for Saturday Night Live, declined to comment. Baldwin’s personal representatives declined to comment, however, later on Friday evening Baldwin himself took to Twitter to address the news and deny that the incident occurred because of a dispute over a parking spot.
“Normally, I would not comment on something as egregiously misstated as today’s story. However, the assertion that I punched anyone over a parking spot is false,” he wrote. “I wanted to go on the record stating as much. I realize that it has become a sport to tag people w as many negative charges and defaming allegations as possible for the purposes of clickbait entertainment.”
He continued, “Fortunately, no matter how reverberating the echos, it doesn’t make the statements true.”
This isn’t the first time Baldwin has had a run-in with the law in New York and elsewhere. In 2014, Baldwin was arrested for disorderly conduct after two cops stopped him from biking the wrong way down a New York street, and he became belligerent with them.
Baldwin has a long history with assaulting members of the paparazzi as well. Just two years before a New York Daily News photographer filed an assault complaint with the NYPD after Baldwin punched him outside New York’s Marriage License Bureau. In 1995, he was arrested on suspicion of battery when he punched a cameraman who was allegedly filming him, his then-wife Kim Basinger and their daughter Ireland.
In 2013 Baldwin was involved in another scuffle with a freelance photographer, but both men declined to press charges. Discussing the dispute with David Lettermen on The Late Show after the incident, Baldwin said of the photographer, “He backed up and tripped and fell on a baby in a stroller and sat on a baby. We were like, we’d had it with this guy. So I stopped and I frisked him.”
