Apple is staging an Alias reunion.
Following a multiple-outlet bidding war, the tech giant has handed out a straight-to-series order for the limited series My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, a drama starring Jennifer Garner and executive produced by J.J. Abrams.
Based on the 2017 memoir of the same name by Amy Silverstein, the story showcases the power of friendship and the resilience of the human spirit as it follows an extraordinary group of women who supported Silverstein as she waited for a second life-saving heart transplant. An episode count and premiere date have not yet been determined.
In addition to starring, Garner will also exec produce, alongside Alias creator Abrams via his Warner Bros. TV-based Bad Robot Productions banner. Karen Croner will reunite with her Tribes of Palos Verdes star Garner on the Apple project and pen the script as well as exec produce. Bad Robot head of TV Ben Stephenson (Westworld) and Silverstein also will exec produce.
My Glory Was I Had Such Friends is Abrams’ second series for Apple, joining 10-episode half-hour dramedy Little Voice, starring Sara Bareilles. Abrams’ TV roster includes Hulu’s Castle Rock and HBO’s Westworld, Lovecraft Country and Demimonde, the latter of which marks the first series solely created by Abrams since Alias.
For her part, Garner is fresh off her first TV series-regular role since Alias ended with HBO’s Camping. The actress rose to fame after her breakout five-season run on the ABC spy thriller, for which she earned four Emmy nominations, as well as Golden Globe and SAG Award wins. She is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Sloane Offer.
Silverstein is with CAA and Fletcher & Co.; Croner is repped by Verve, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Tyerman.
My Glory Was I Had Such Friends marks the latest high-profile series to land at Apple as the iPhone maker continues to aggressively push into original scripted programming. Still to be determined is how — and when — Apple will release said content, though it is expected to be available via its free Apple TV app and arrive sometime in 2019.
