The network is developing a spinoff of the series — whose third season premiere recorded its biggest audience ever — called All American: Homecoming. It’s set to air as a planted episode later in the season and will focus on Geffri Maya’s recurring character, Simone Hicks, and another athlete as they make their way to a prestigious historically Black college.
All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll is writing the potential spinoff and will executive produce alongside the original show’s team of Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and Robbie Rogers. Michael Schultz, who has helmed a half dozen episodes of All American, will direct. Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions are producing.
All American: Homecoming will follow Maya’s Simone, a tennis hopeful, and an elite baseball player from Chicago as they deal with the high stakes of college sports while also navigating the highs, lows and sexiness of unsupervised early adulthood at college.
The show is the third potential spinoff The CW has in the works: The broadcaster is also developing Painkiller, an offshoot of Black Lightning, and Tom Swift, a Nancy Drew spinoff. Like the All American spinoff, both will air as planted episodes of their respective shows later this season.
Maya joined All American last season in a recurring role and appeared in the season three premiere on Jan. 18. Her credits also include Private Practice and Black-ish. She is repped by TalentWorks and Station 3 Management.
