Amazon has greenlighted a second season of its hourlong original drama series Bosch, it announced Wednesday.
The show has already set records for Amazon, with the biggest debut weekend yet for an Amazon original series, and is the most watched title on Prime Instant Video in its first four weeks.
The first season of Bosch, based on Michael Connelly‘s internationally best-selling series about the titular LAPD detective Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver), began streaming on Amazon Prime Instant Video on Feb. 13. Season two will be drawn from Connelly’s best-selling novels Trunk Music and The Drop.
Welliver will return for the second season along with Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino, Lance Reddick and Sarah Clarke. The series was developed for television by Eric Overmyer and is executive produced by Overmyer, Connelly, Henrik Bastin and Pieter Jan Brugge.
“We’re delighted to see that Amazon customers have immediately embraced Bosch,” Amazon Studios vp Roy Price said in a statement. “Fans will soon be able to enjoy more of this inspired adaptation brought to life by a remarkably gifted cast.”
Connelly added: “I am very excited about continuing the Bosch story with season two. I love what we started with and I think our plans for the second season will make the show even better and more exploratory of the character of Harry Bosch. We have a great cast and crew, and we are all going to be one year better at this. I can’t wait.”
In the second season, Bosch will investigate the murder of a Hollywood producer who laundered money for the mob. He will also pursue serial killer Chilton Hardy, with his investigations taking him through the back streets of L.A. and Las Vegas.
There have been 19 Harry Bosch novels published since 1992, including 2014’s No. 1 best-seller The Burning Room.
Bosch is the latest Amazon series to receive a second-season order, joining other hits Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent and Alpha House and kids’ series Tumble Leaf, Creative Galaxy, Annedroids and Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street.
