Amazon Prime Video has announced its new Indian reality show Skulls and Roses, which attempts to mash up romance and adventure reality shows into one package.
Set at an undisclosed destination, the show’s selected participants will be invited “to form couples and bonds of love on Rose Island, which are then tested for their authenticity and fortitude on Skull Island.”
A launch date is not yet given for the show, which will be streamed worldwide and hosted by brothers Raghu Ram and Rajiv Lakshman who also co-produce Skulls and Roses via their Monozygotic Solutions banner. The duo are well-known for creating MTV India’s long-running popular reality shows Roadies and Splitsvilla.
“Skulls and Roses is a first-of-its-kind format where the best of two opposite worlds come together on a reality show,” said Lakshman.
Amazon has been boosting its original content offerings in India with three previously announced reality shows that are expected to bow in the first quarter of this year. Two revolve around local stand-up comedy, titled Jestination Unknown and Comic Kaun, while the third is the local version of musical talent show The Remix, from Turkey’s Global Agency that has been sold in 15 countries across Asia, Africa and Europe.
Amazon’s slate of fiction series include some 18 Indian originals at various stages of production, including a World War 2 series with the working title The Forgotten Army. The streamer bowed its first Indian original, cricket drama Inside Edge, last year followed by crime thriller Breathe in January.
