America Ferrera is returning to television.
The Ugly Betty alum has signed on to star in and produce NBC comedy pilot Superstore, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The actress, who has not had a series regular role since ABC’s Ugly Betty ended its run in 2010, has garnered multiple offers for the past few pilot seasons and declined everything — until now.

Single-camera entry Superstore is described as a comedy about a disparate group of employees working at a big-box store in middle America, and the love story that will ultimately unfold among them.
Ferrera will star as Amy, who has been working at the store, Cloud 9, for 10 years as a floor supervisor. The character is initially put off by newbie Jonah’s (Ben Feldman, A to Z) superior attitude and the fact that he clowns around on the job. Despite a rocky start, the two quickly bond as Jonah helps Amy find more joy at work, and Amy starts to fall for Jonah.

Ferrera — an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for Ugly Betty — has been focused on film in recent years, with voice roles in How to Train Your Dragon and its sequel, as well as the features Our Family Wedding, Cesar Chavez, End of Watch and X/Y, the latter of which she also produced. On the small screen, Ferrera most recently appeared on CBS’ The Good Wife and reprised her voice role in Cartoon Network’s Dragons, the animated spinoff of How to Train Your.
The Office‘s Justin Spitzer will pen the script and exec produce Superstore alongside Ruben Fleischer, who will direct the Universal Television pilot. David Bernad will also exec produce. Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Mark McKinney, Nico Santos and Nichole Bloom co-star.
Ferrera is repped by CAA, Authentic and Peikoff Mahan.
