Fox renewed Seth MacFarlane's often-raunchy animated Sunday staple for a seventh season in February. With a cult following of young viewers, the show has been a powerhouse for the network and studio. The studio has racked up multiple syndication deals for American Dad. Reruns began airing last year on TBS and Turner’s Adult Swim as well as FX and in the UK on BBC Three.

TBS is keeping American Dad! in the family.
The Turner-owned cable network has renewed the animated series from 20th Century Fox and Seth MacFarlane for two additional seasons. As part of the deal, encores of the comedy will air on sibling network Adult Swim.
With the 44-episode pickup, the comedy will stretch through its 13th season, with 22 installments in both the 12th and 13th cycles. The renewal will keep Stan Smith’s clan on TBS through 2018.
This marks the second renewal for the series — created by MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman — at TBS. The series moved from Fox to TBS after its first nine seasons. In November, TBS picked up the animated comedy for its 11th season, which will air on TBS and Adult Swim in early 2016.

For TBS, the comedy ranks as basic cable’s top scripted series on Mondays at 9 p.m. among adults 18-34 and comes in second in the slot of the key 18-49 demo. Overall, American Dad! averages 4 million total viewers per episode, when factoring in repeats on Adult Swim and on-demand and digital streams.
“American Dad! has thrived since coming to TBS and Adult Swim, demonstrating the Turner portfolio’s ability to build enduring hits through a combination of smart programming, savvy promotion and extensive multiplatform distribution,” said Deborah Bradley, executive vp networks and programming optimization, content strategy and commercialization for Turner Broadcasting. “We look forward to keeping the crazy-but-lovable Smith family around for a long time.”
