An American Idol alum is heading to USA Network.
Matt Rogers, who was a finalist on season three of Fox’s singing competition, will take the reins as host of Summer Camp, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Hailing from Big Brother producers Alison Grodner and Rich Meehan, Summer Camp follows an eclectic group of 16 adults from all walks of life at an idyllic retreat in Big Bear, Calif., where they will compete in over-the-top competitions inspired by classic camp games. At the end of the summer, the remaining competitors face off in “Campathalon,” the ultimate Olympics-style event.
“A reality TV veteran, Matt brings a relatability and an energy that is a perfect fit for this fun-filled summer competition series,” said Heather Olander, senior vp alternative programming for USA Network. “As a former camper himself, we are excited to see Matt relive the experience all over again alongside this incredible group of characters.”
Since competing on American Idol in 2004, Rogers has gone on to host a slew of programs, including GSN’s Beat the Chefs, Discovery Channel’s Really Big Things, CBS’ There Goes the Neighborhood and Lifetime’s Coming Home. He is repped by APA, Untitled and Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg & Light.
Produced by Fly on the Wall Entertainment and distributed by Sony Pictures TV, Summer Camp debuts at 8 p.m. July 11 on USA, and is the network’s second unscripted effort hitting the small screen, following The Moment.
