American Idol turned in its best ratings in almost two months on Sunday night.
The ABC competition delivered a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49, easily the best on the broadcast networks for the night and the show’s best performance in the key ad demographic since a 1.5 on March 6. Its 7.88 million viewers are the most since its season premiere.
America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.1) hit a five-episode high in adults 18-49 preceding Idol, and Shark Tank held steady at 0.8.
The premiere of CBS’ limited series The Red Line didn’t fare so well, posting a soft 0.5 in the 18-49 demo and 4.86 million viewers. That’s a good bit below the network’s 8-10 p.m. average of 0.9 and about 7.6 million viewers. NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6, 5.63 million) fell to season lows at 10 p.m., but 60 Minutes (0.8, 9.06 million) was up week to week.
NBC’s World of Dance (0.8 in adults 18-49) and Good Girls (0.6) both improved a little vs. last week, with World of Dance posting its best demo rating in five weeks.
Fox’s animated comedies returned from a few weeks off with The Simpsons (0.7) and Bob’s Burgers (0.8) in line with their last new episodes and Family Guy off a tick at 0.8. Supergirl (0.3) and Charmed (0.2) matched their last outings on The CW.
ABC averaged a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 to lead the broadcast networks, beating second-place NBC (0.7) by half a point. CBS and Fox tied for third at 0.6. The CW was back of the pack at 0.2.
