Can Brian Arnold — or anyone for that mater — conquer American Ninja Warrior‘s Mount Midoriyama?
That’s the question on everyone’ minds heading into Monday’s season finale of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior. Veteran competitor Arnold has made it farther than any other American competitor in the show’s history and will make his run Monday during the show’s season finale.
On Monday, Arnold will be joined by Ninjas who completed Stage I during last week’s Las Vegas Finals as they look to complete Stages II, III and IV before making their way on to the 80-foot Mount Midoriyama. Last year, Arnold fell on the Flying Bar — the final obstacle of Stage III. He ranks as the show’s best bet to crown a winner. (In its past six seasons, no one has ever completed Stage III, let alone took home the $500,000 cash prize.) Watch Arnold start his run in THR‘s exclusive clip, below.
Last week, American Ninja Warrior sensation Kacy Catanzaro — the first woman to ever successfully climb the 14-foot Warped Wall — failed to compete Stage I when the five-foot-tall former gymnast didn’t have the arm span to defeat the spider crawl.
For his part, co-host Matt Iseman believes part of the show’s appeal is that nobody has ever won it. “We weren’t sure if the American public was ready for having a show where there was no winner. Everyone says, ‘Who won this year?’ Nobody. Nobody completed the course,” he says, noting the show’s diverse pool of competitors helps it appeal to a broad and diverse viewership.
Watch Arnold’s finals run, below. The season finale airs Monday, Sept. 8, with season seven returning next summer. Repeats of ANW air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Esquire Network.
