Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers Take Down Sports Illustrated Analyst for Slamming Women’s Sports

Amy Poehler stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday night to ask one very important question: “Really!?!”

The two Saturday Night Live alumni reteamed for the hilarious segment, this time to take down Sports Illustrated analyst Andy Benoit. He recently had tweeted in response to an SI editor’s comment praising the Women’s World Cup that “women’s sports in general not worth watching.”

“I think a lot of people would love to watch you say that to Serena Williams,” said Poehler. “I guess I’m not surprised that you work for Sports Illustrated. You guys put out a swimsuit issue every year dedicated entirely to women who aren’t in sports — unless you think it’s a sport to cover both boobs with one arm.” Seth Meyers then mimicked sports-style commentary on the potential scene: “She’s walking down the beach, bikini top is off but her arm is out, and she’s done it! She’s covered both nipples!”

Meyers continued, “I bet you’re the same guy who sits inside on a nice day and watches the NFL draft, a full day to find out if your favorite college player is gonna have to go mansion shopping in Jacksonville or Tampa Bay.”

The confrontation then shifted beyond Benoit, as they asked why the tournament is being broadcast on secondary channels like Fox Sports 1. “Come on, networks! You’ll play six hours of pre-Kentucky Derby footage but you can’t broadcast women’s soccer?” asked Poehler. “You think people would rather watch someone talk about hats than watch some badass American bitches take down Colombia?”

“Maybe there’s nothing in women’s sports that compares directly to a LeBron James windmill dunk, but women do have a lot in common with LeBron,” she pointed out. “We wear headbands, we love to travel, and much like LeBron, in the Finals, we often find ourselves asking, ‘Hey, can I get some help around here?!'”

After Meyers noted that the game pulled in 4.7 million viewers (without much advertising) and plugged Friday night’s U.S. vs. China match — “on Fox, on the real Fox network” — Poehler concluded, “No more tweeting, Benoit — you’re too dumb.”

Benoit has since deleted his tweet, replacing it with an apology.
