Peacock’s Girls5eva continues to build out its cast.
Andrew Rannells (The Boys in the Band, Black Monday) has booked a recurring role on the straight-to-series comedy from exec producers Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and Meredith Scardino (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).
The series follows what happens after one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s gets sampled by a young rapper when its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents and shoulder pain, but can’t they also be Girls5eva? Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps and Paula Pell star as members of the girl group.
Rannells will recur as Kev, the husband to Philipps’ character, Summer. Kev is a former member of boy band Boyz Next Door and he and Summer were once the “girl-group and boy band’s royal couple.” But things are less than perfect for them now that Kev works in Tampa and only comes home one weekend a month.
Scardino created the series and exec produces alongside Fey, Carlock, Jeff Richmond, David Miner and Eric Gurian. Kat Coiro will direct the pilot. All eight episodes of the comedy will premiere May 6 on Peacock.
Repped by UTA and Rise Management, Rannells counts The Prom, Girls and The New Normal among his credits.
