While the cast of Modern Family recently recreated some of Hollywood’s favorite TV shows in a special photo shoot for The Hollywood Reporter, the show could well be heading for an Indian makeover itself from Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor.
While an official announcement has not been made, Kapoor tweeted Thursday: “Exploring the #ModernFamily world. Can’t wait to recreate the magic for Indian audiences!” Kapoor is currently in Los Angeles and also posted pictures of the show’s set and some of its actors, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
As one of India’s most popular actors with a career spanning over three decades, Kapoor’s Hollywood appearances have included roles in Slumdog Millionaire and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
The actor is no stranger to adapting U.S. shows for India either. In 2013, his production banner Anil Kapoor Film Co. co-produced the Hindi version of Fox’s 24, in which he also starred as the Indian Jack Bauer, the counter-terrorist agent played by Kiefer Sutherland in the original. The show aired on Viacom18’s Colors channel, which will also air its second season, currently in production. Kapoor’s connection with the show began when he had a guest appearance in the final season of 24, playing the leader of a Middle Eastern nation.
Kapoor also posted a photo of himself with 24 creator Howard Gordon, tweeting: “The genius behind #24, #Homeland & #Tyrant is helping us make #24IndiaS2 kickass!”
Recently, the actor’s banner inked a deal with leading Indian entertainment major Eros Entertainment’s digital service Eros Now. The streaming service announced its first set of in-house productions, which included the “Indian adaptation of a popular international sitcom” to be co-produced by AKFC, though no further details were given.
AKFC also inked a co-production deal in June for a planned Bollywood film with Richard Branson‘s Virgin Produced India banner.
