Animal Planet has greenlighted a second season of I Was Prey.
The series tells the true stories of people who were brutally attacked by dangerous predators and survived by fighting their way through life-and-death scenarios.
The series, which is produced for Animal Planet by Hit + Run, premiered in July and is the network’s highest-rated new Sunday night series among adults 25-54 since the premiere of Lone Star Law in June 2016. Season two goes into production this month for a 2018 premiere.
“It’s very exciting as such a young company to have a hit series on our slate, especially with a great partner like Animal Planet,” said Rob Shaftel, founder and executive producer for Hit + Run. “We put the storytelling into the hands of the survivors and use unique visuals and sound design to highlight the dramatic and suspenseful moments. It’s cinematic, experiential and ultimately rings scarily true.”
Added Lisa Lucas, executive producer for Animal Planet: “These stories don’t blame or demonize the animals. In fact, the people who survive these extraordinary and terrifying encounters often discover a new level of respect for the animals they’ve encountered.”
Shaftel and David Bresenham are executive producers for Hit + Run, with Noah Korn as supervising producer. Patrick Keegan serves as supervising producer.
Season one, which is available on the Animal Planet Go app, features predators that include polar bears and great white sharks. The network said that season two will expand to highlight more creatures.
