The Animaniacs are not leaving Hulu anytime soon.
The Disney-backed streamer has handed out an early third-season pickup for the revival of the beloved cartoon from Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation.
The early pickup, which is for another round of 10 episodes, arrives as season two of the comedy from showrunner Wellesley Wild is expected to return this year. It’s worth noting that animated series take longer to produce and early pickups help keep the shows on a regular production cycle so the show can maintain a regular release schedule. The show was revived in January 2018 with an initial two-season order in a deal with producers Warner Bros. that included streaming rights to the show’s vast library.

The renewal is part of a series of announcements to come from Hulu as part of its (virtual) time before press at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. Other announcements include the Iron Mike limited series about boxer Mike Tyson and return dates for The Handmaid’s Tale (April 28 with three episodes), final season of Shrill (all episodes May 7), Marvel’s adult animated comedy MODOK (all 10 episodes May 21) and second season of Love, Victor (all 10 episodes June 11).
“With returning seasons of award-winning comedies and dramas, Hulu’s 2021 slate of original series truly has something for everyone,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu and ABC Entertainment president. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome back the stories and characters fans have connected with in The Handmaid’s Tale, Shrill, Animaniacs and Love, Victor, while taking viewers deeper into the character of Mike Tyson in Iron Mike and bringing animated but deeply human characters to life in Marvel’s MODOK.”
