If Ann Coulter‘s goal was to create controversy and draw some buzz for her new book, well, mission accomplished.
The conservative provacateur appeared on The View on Thursday, entering a den of daytime TV liberalism to promote Mugged, a new tome that quite strongly disagrees with most tenents of the left’s standard views on race, civil rights and politics. In her book and on the show, she said that liberals are frequently guilty of “race-mongering” and milking white guilt — which she says expired once O.J. Simpson was found innocent of murdering his ex-wife and her friend in 1995.
She called the 1970s and 1980s a “golden era” for white guilt, like “Trayvon Martin every day,” and that liberals use race to promote causes that are harmful to black people.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg was not amused, challenging Coulter: “If you’re going to talk about race, at least know what you’re talking about. Tell me how much you know about being black.”
Coulter also said that liberals fabricated the Republicans’ “Southern Strategy” — an electoral strategy originally implemented by Richard Nixon to take advantage of racial resentment in the South — and that Democratic segregationists were all liberals.
This did not please the co-hosts, to say the least.
