Call it the Atlanta effect.
As the Peabody-winning FX series begins production on its second season, series breakout writer Stefani Robinson has inked an exclusive overall deal with FX Productions. The pact comes as part of a meteoric rise for young Robinson, who was merely an assistant at the Gersh Agency when she landed her staff writer position on Atlanta. Though she’s quickly added other credits, the Donald Glover comedy was her first formal writing job.
Impressed, FX segued Robinson from Atlanta’s first season to FXX’s Man Seeking Woman. Since then, she not only returned to write on Atlanta’s second season, but she has joined several of the comedy’s staffers, including Glover and his brother Stephen, to work as both a writer and producer on the upcoming still-untitled Marvel’s Deadpool animated series.
Robinson is also writing the Princeless feature adaptation for Sony and recently sold an original idea to Fox Searchlight. As part of her new deal with FXP, she will develop additional series for FX and FXX along with other outlets, too.
“Stefani has emerged as one of the brightest new writers and producers in little more than a year since she first joined the Atlanta team,” said FX Networks’ original programming president Nick Grad. “She wrote or contributed to many unforgettable episodes, helping to make it the breakout comedy of the year. Stefani has continued to grow as an artist and, under this new overall deal, we can’t wait to collaborate with her on future projects.”
Robinson is repped by Dianne McGunigle at MGMT, Gersh and Ginsburg Daniels.
