Like a partygoer who’s had one too many, Bachelor in Paradise stumbled out of the gate in Tuesday’s ratings.
The ABC show delivered a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 for its two-hour debut, down half a point (and 31 percent) from its 2017 premiere. Last season debuted on a Monday; these numbers are on par with the show’s Tuesday premiere last year.
Following Bachelor in Paradise, stranded-on-an-island series Castaways premiered to a 0.7, up from the 0.4 average for The Last Defense in the same time slot earlier in the summer. ABC says it’s the best summer performance in the time slot (excluding sports) since an episode of To Tell the Truth in July 2016.
NBC cruised to another win in primetime, although both America’s Got Talent (season-low 1.9, -0.2) and Making It (1.0, -0.1) declined week to week. Beat Shazam also slipped a tenth of a point to 0.6 on Fox, while Love Connection held at 0.4.
The season finale of The 100 on The CW drew a 0.3, in line with last week and with its season average. The Outpost is currently at 0.2, even with last week’s preliminary rating and up from its 0.1 final number.
NBC averaged 1.6 in the 18-49 demo for the night, easily topping ABC’s 0.9. Fox and CBS (which aired a night of reruns) tied for third place at 0.5. The CW trailed at 0.2.
The Tonight Show led the late-night metered markets with a 0.5 demo rating at 11:35 p.m. The Late Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live tied at 0.4; The Late Show‘s 2.6/7 in households led the other two (1.5/4 each) comfortably.
Late Night, The Late Late Show and Nightline all averaged 0.3 in adults 18-49 at 12:35 a.m.
