ABC surprised viewers of The Bachelor on Monday night with the announcement that JoJo Fletcher had been selected as the next Bachelorette. (Second runner-up Caila Quinn, who is half-Caucasian and half-Filipino, had been rumored to be the next pick amid expectations that the reality dating series would finally tap a diverse woman to lead the show. )
But Fletcher, who was seen in Monday night’s season finale being dumped by Bachelor Ben Higgins (who ended up with Lauren Bushnell), says that she is ready to find a husband — on reality TV.
“I want to find my husband,” Fletcher told People. “I want to find the person who will complete me and who will love me as much as I love him. I’m more ready than ever.”
The real estate developer admitted it was a “really hard” time following her breakup with Ben but now says she holds no hard feelings and was “lucky” to have that experience.
“Watching it back, I kind of had to relive it and I definitely remember how sad I was. But I’m not bitter and I’m not angry. Ben followed his heart. Even though it didn’t work out, it still was a great relationship and I learned a lot from him.”
She added that facing Higgins during the live After the Final Rose was hard.
“I know that was a tough situation for both of us,” she says. “I was super nervous but he explained it well and I have closure.”
The Bachelorette premieres May 23 on ABC.
