The Moonlight Oscar winner and his Pastel banner have inked a two-year, first-look TV deal with HBO and its streaming sibling HBO Max. Under the pact, A24 will exec produce all HBO/HBO Max Pastel projects and partner with the production company’s Jenkins and Mark Ceryak on select projects outside of the deal.
The new agreement marks a reunion for A24 and Pastel following their best picture win for Jenkins’ Moonlight. The two companies recently announced Raven Jackson’s feature directorial debut, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt.
The deal also marks an expansion of the relationship between A24 and WarnerMedia-backed HBO, who have worked together on Euphoria and the upcoming Alicia Vikander entry Irma Vep.
HBO/HBO Max and A24 becomes Jenkins’ new TV home following a similar two-year TV deal with Amazon Studios. Under that pact, Jenkins has remained busy prepping The Underground Railroad, a limited series adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel that chronicles a young woman’s journey as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. The drama, starring newcomer Thuso Mbedu, Joel Edgerton and Chase W. Dillon, will debut in May on Amazon.
Pastel’s credits include If Beale Street Could Talk, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Underground Railroad and Jenkins’ The Lion King prequel. A24’s credits include Euphoria, Ramy, Mr. Corman and Beef.
