VANCOUVER – Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures co-founders Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes have been tapped to take over production of BBC America’s Copper ahead of a second season shoot in Toronto.
Frislev and Oakes replace Brad van Arragon, who left at the end of the first season.
Cineflix Studios, which produces the cable network period drama, in association with BBC America, on Friday confirmed the hire after discussions with Frislev and Oakes started in fall 2012.
BBC America and Showcase in Canada ordered 13 episodes of Copper for a 2013 broadcast.
Nomadic Pictures also work on AMC’s modern western Hell on Wheels.
Copper executive producers Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana co-created the period drama with Will Rokos.
The U.S. cable drama follows detective Kevin Corcoran, played by Tom Weston-Jones, as a rugged Irish immigrant cop in 1864 New York City.
Season two executive producers include Levinson, Fontana, Rokos, Christina Wayne, Tom Kelly, Sherri Rufh, Sam Berliner and Katherine Buck.
