LONDON – A producer of the BBC’s flagship investigative news program Panorama suspended by the corporation amid allegations of bribery has quit.
Last week the BBC suspended a member of the Panorama production team working on a program looking into the activities of luxury Caribbean property developer Harlequin, and postponed airing the episode.
According to a report in The Guardian, the BBC, which has never confirmed the name of the individual at the center of the allegations, said Friday that a member of staff has left the corporation.
“We have accepted the resignation of a member of staff who had recently been suspended following a complaint made to Panorama,” said a spokesman for the BBC.
Harlequin lodged a complaint last week and the show was suspended and is now contacting the police about the allegations in the Panorama show, according to The Guardian.
A BBC spokesman said that the corporation was still investigating Harlequin’s complaint about Panorama and remained hopeful that it might be able to broadcast the program, which was scheduled to air last month.
