BBC Studios has appointed Ralph Lee to the new role of director of content.
He will have overall control of BBC Studios Production’s creative strategy in the U.K. The appointment comes just two weeks after the announcement of chief creative officer Mark Linsey’s enhanced remit across all of BBC Studios’ IP-generating activities.
Following this appointment, the genre managing directors for factual, scripted, factual entertainment and events, and entertainment and music will all report to Lee, who will also work closely alongside Anna Mallett, managing director of production.
Lee was most recently interim chief creative officer at Channel 4, having previously served as deputy chief creative officer from 2014 to 2017.
“We are delighted to welcome Ralph to BBC Studios,” said Tim Davie, BBC Studios’ CEO. “His passion for programs that are intelligent, unexpected and entertaining is plain to see — and he brings a proven ability to understand what audiences want, and to partner with creatives to deliver it.”
Lee, who will report to Davie and sit on BBC Studios’ executive committee, will take up his new role in October.
