BUENOS AIRES – BBC Worldwide officially inaugurated its Latin American HQ in Coral Gables on Wednesday, during an event hosted by Fred Medina, executive vp and managing director of BBC Worldwide Latin America and U.S. Hispanic, together with BBC Worldwide’s president of global markets, Paul Dempsey. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in the presence of Miami-Dade County mayor, Carlos J. Gimenez, Coral Gables City commissioner Patricia Keon and Mark Trowbridge, president and CEO of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.
“The opening of this regional trading hub represents a natural extension of 80 years of presence in Latin America and enables us to continue to increase our footprint in the region,” said Medina. “We have created this unique state-of-the art business environment where all the areas of BBC Worldwide Latin America operations are very well represented. BBC Worldwide is a fully integrated global content company, doing business in more than 200 countries, and from here, we will lead operations in 18 countries.”
“We have big ambitions for Latin America and the new headquarters are our launch pad. When you take the power of a global company like the BBC, one of the biggest content producers and distributors in the world, and you combine it with the expertise of the team here, who really understands the audiences they are serving, there is no doubt that the next stage of our journey is to become an even bigger force in the region,” added Dempsey.
Located at 255 Alhambra Circle in Coral Gables, a city within the Miami metropolitan area, the new facilities serve as the hub for all Latin American and U.S. Hispanic operations and initiatives. The headquarters also will house BBC’s news service in Spanish BBC Mundo in the upcoming months.
Earlier this year, the BBC commercial arm sold the shows Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, Atlantis, A Young Doctor’s Notebook S2 and Burton & Taylor to HBO Latin America, as well as the first two seasons of Orphan Black to A&E Latin America.
