On NBC’s new romantic comedy series, Bent, Amanda Peet and David Walton’s characters are indescribably drawn to each other, but come from two very different worlds.

Pete (Walton) is a smooth talking contractor with a loose view on life. Alex (Peet) is a Type-A personality lawyer who’s picking herself up after divorcing an incarcerated husband, becoming a single mother, and buying a new home.
“I’m sort of in that ‘once bitten, twice shy’ sort of space where I don’t want to take a lot of risks, I’m trying to keep it all together,” Peet says during a visit to The Hollywood Reporter’s Cover Lounge. “And then David Walton walks in my door and I hire him to be my contractor.”
Created and executive produced by Tad Quill, the series examines how these two people who couldn’t be any more different on the surface can “sizzle” (as Peet puts it) together.

The complicated relationships don’t end there, though. They’re joined by an ensemble cast that includes Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and a comedic turn for Pasha D. Lychnikoff (Deadwood).
“Oh my God, where do we start? First you have this Russian,” Walton says of the ensemble cast. “They’ve cast this guy, Pasha, who truly has never not played a villain. And now, he’s playing a plumber, like a lighthearted plumber.”
Find out what else Walton and Peet had to say about their cast mates and the complicated chemistry between Pete and Alex in THR’s video above.
Bent premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. on NBC.
