BET is staying in business with Beverly Bond.
The Viacom-owned cable network has inked a new deal with the founder and executive producer of Black Girls Rock to keep the annual awards show on the network for another five years.
Bond founded Black Girls Rock as a multifaceted empowerment movement that includes youth enrichment mentoring programs, a tour and the annual awards show, partnering with BET in 2010 for the latter. The most recent airing, on Nov. 3, delivered the kudocast’s best performance ever, with more that 2.7 million viewers tuning in. It also hit highs among adults 18-34 and women 18-34, and ratings were up 25 percent in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo.
Under Bond’s new deal, she’ll continue on as an exec producer on the show and develop new content for BET.
“In 2007, I attended the Black Girls Rock Awards at Lincoln Center in New York City and knew, instantly, how magical this movement would be on television,” BET president of music programming and specials Stephen Hill said. “We are excited and pleased to have inked an exclusive deal with Beverly Bond to produce Black Girls Rock on BET Networks for the next five years.”
