‘The Big Short’s’ Charles Randolph Developing War Drama Series for Amazon

Amazon is looking to Academy Award winner Charles Randolph for its next drama.

The streaming service is teaming with The Big Short screenwriter for an untitled drama currently in development, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama is said to be a multifaceted realistic look at what it would take to create a present-day civil war in the United States of America. Amazon Studios will produce.

The deal comes a month after Randolph won the Oscar for his adapted screenplay for The Big Short. His credits include features Love & Other Drugs and the upcoming Gucci.

For Amazon, the potential series comes as the company continues to bulk up on originals, including its newly ordered Woody Allen and Jean-Claude Van Damme comedies. Those join a slate that includes Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle and more.

For Randolph, meanwhile, the Amazon comedy marks his first potential series after he wrote and exec produced a series of TV movies including Exposed, The Missionary and The Wonderful Maladys. He’s repped by CAA, Brillstein and Loeb & Loeb.
