Nearly five months after signing Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton‘s RCG Productions to an overall deal that included a pilot order, FX has ordered Bill Burr starrer Pariah from the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia gang.
The comedy, co-created by It’s Always Sunny writers John and Dave Chernin, centers on volatile TV personality Joe Abbott (Burr), who, after an on-air meltdown, is exiled from show business and forced to navigate society as a man with no apparent skills.

The Chernin brothers — who have served as writers on Sunny since season six and serve as supervising producers on the show’s upcoming 10th season — penned the pilot. McElhenney will direct the pilot. FX Productions will produce the comedy in association with RCG Productions. The trio will serve as executive producers alongside Burr, the Chernins, 3 Arts’ Dave Becky, Michael Rotenberg and Nick Frenkel.
For his part, stand-up comedian/actor Burr had a recurring role as Kuby on AMC’s Breaking Bad and has guest-starred on Kroll Show, New Girl and had a recurring role on Chappelle’s Show. He has been a staple on the late-night circuit, with regular appearances on David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon‘s shows. His Monday Morning Podcast is one of the most downloaded comedy podcasts online.
For FX, the pilot order for Pariah comes a day after the network renewed half-hours You’re the Worst and Married for second seasons. Pariah joins a comedy pilot roster that includes Death Pact and animated entry Bigfoot. You’re the Worst and Married return to an FX/FXX comedy lineup that also includes Louie, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League and upcoming entries Man Seeking Woman starring Jay Baruchel, Zach Galifianakis‘ Baskets, Billy Crystal‘s The Comedians and Denis Leary‘s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, among others.
Burr is repped by APA, 3 Arts and Cohen Gardner.
