Perennial moonlighter Bill O’Reilly‘s latest side gig is at his own network. Fox News Channel announced Wednesday that it’s ordered a 10-week historical series from the O’Reilly Factor host and unscripted producers Warm Springs Production.

The series, Legends & Lies: Into the West, will tackle different figures of the American West — including Jesse James, Davy Crockett, Doc Holliday and Billy the Kid. “We are thrilled to present our viewers with insight that defined the West’s past and pay tribute to some of the most notorious American trailblazers,” said FNC senior exec vp Bill Shine of the pickup.
It’s a bit of a departure of FNC, which airs considerably less docu-style fare than cable news contemporaries CNN and MSNBC. But it’s very much in the wheelhouse of O’Reilly. The TV personality, who’s written best-selling history books chronicling the deaths of Presidents Kennedy and Lincoln, Jesus Christ and George S. Patton, is a self-professed history buff.
FNC chairman and CEO Roger Ailes told The Hollywood Reporter in 2014 that he was interested in doing history programming, potentially building a channel around the subject with O’Reilly.
Legends & Lies premieres Sunday, April 12, at 8 p.m. Two episodes will run back-to-back during the first week.
