When it comes to “The Longest Time,” everyone has their part.
Therefore, Billy Joel, J.K. Simmons, Jimmy Fallon and Joel’s band spontaneously treated the Tonight Show audience to an unrehearsed doo-wop performance of the 1983 track while filming local promos during Wednesday’s taping.
Though Fallon, singing the tenor harmonies and solo lines, is the only one with a microphone for the moment, Simmons also shines on those bass riffs. Joel kicks off the song and closes it with somewhat creative gestures to coincide with the final lyrics.
