ABC’s Black-ish has found its off-network cable home.
The family comedy from showrunner Kenya Barris has landed at BET and FX Networks, Disney/ABC Television Group announced Tuesday.
The news comes as Black-ish — awaiting its season four renewal — has already been sold to Hulu in a lucrative SVOD deal as well as to Tribune Broadcasting networks for its broadcast syndication home.
The BET deal is said to be in the range of $500,000 per episode for the Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross starrer. BET will air repeats of the series beginning in fall 2018. The deal is said to include a component to air the series on two Viacom networks at the same time. FX Networks nabbed the shared window for Black-ish, for an estimated $300,000 per episode. It’s unclear if it will air on the flagship FX or younger-skewing FXX network. FX/FXX can begin airing the series in fall 2018 as well.
“We’re excited to partner with Disney/ABC in bringing this bold and beloved series to our audience,” said BET CEO Debra Lee. “Black-ish has an incredible track record of crossing cultural lines and reflecting the universality of African-American life. We’re thrilled to be part of its continued journey.”
Produced by ABC Studios, Black-ish is a critical favorite and has won a Peabody Award, multiple NAACP Image Awards and a Golden Globe for Ross. ABC is currently readying a spinoff starring Yara Shahidi as the network looks to expand the franchise.
