Could Yeezus be coming to ABC’s Black-ish?
If star Tracee Ellis Ross gets her way, that could be the case. Ross — who plays a doctor and wife to Anthony Anderson’s character on the ABC comedy — told The Hollywood Reporter at a recent Emmy panel that she has plans should West stop by.
“I think he should be a doctor working with my character, Rainbow,” Ross told THR. “Dre [Anderson] gets worried Rainbow is going to have an affair with him, but Rainbow has no interest.”
Ross, as it turns out, has plenty of other ideas for cameos, including Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell — but as Anchorman’s Ron Burgundy — while series creator Kenya Barris proposed Maya Rudolph and Justin Bieber.
“For some reason I feel like Bieber would be a great person to bring into Zoey’s [Yara Shahidi] life,” Barris said. “He would be the kid a father wouldn’t necessarily want their daughter to date. I’ve seen some funny comedic stuff he’s done.”
Marcus Scribner, who plays nerdy older son Andre Jr., similarly set his sights high. “Robert De Niro is my favorite actor, so he would be a great guest star. Or Morgan Freeman. That would be really cool.”
Barris and the cast are also pulling for a Modern Family/Black-ish crossover. “I’ve asked Steve [Levitan],” Barris said. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen this year, but I would love it.”
Shahidi agreed. “With two crazy families combined, the craziness would only escalate,” she said, with the cast also looking to pair-up with ABC’s other Wednesday family comedies, including 1980s-set The Goldbergs. “That might be fantastic. We do so many flashbacks on our show, I think it would work perfectly,” Ross said.
Barris had a similar idea. “I wish we could go back in time and do a crossover with Fresh Off the Boat,” Barris said.
Meanwhile, star Anderson proposed a crossover with a non-ABC show. “Empire,” he said. “To show that both shows can co-exist.”
Black-ish airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
